Undergraduates in HDFS can take advantage of a wide range of scholarship and other financial aid opportunities, including department-administered awards, the College of ACES' Jonathan Baldwin Turner and other ACES scholarships, and the full array of aid packages available through the University's Office of Student Financial Aid.
HDFS-Administered Scholarships
The Joyce I. Nies Scholarship in Human Development and Family Studies
The Joyce I. Nies Scholarship in Human Development and Family Studies each year awards $1,500 to $2,500 each to two HDFS students. These scholarships result from a generous gift to the University by Dr. Joyce I. Nies, a native of St. Clair County who received her B.S. in vocational home economics, her M.S. in child development, and her Ph.D. in education from the University of Illinois. The application deadline for the Nies Scholarships is May 1 of each year. HDFS students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.4 who will have completed at least 60 hours of credit by the end of the spring semester are eligible to apply. College of ACES Scholarships
Jonathan Baldwin Turner Scholarship Program
The University of Illinois College of ACES established the Jonathan Baldwin Turner (JBT) Scholarship Program to recognize and foster scholarly excellence, good citizenship, and demonstrated leadership among high school graduates. Merit-based Jonathan Baldwin Turner Scholarships are open to outstanding individuals enrolling in all programs offered within the College of ACES, including HDFS. The scholarships are awarded in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) and include additional honors and recognition. A stipend of four thousand dollars ($4,000) is awarded for unrestricted use during the student’s freshman year in the University of Illinois College of ACES. The remaining $6,000 scholarship commitment will be awarded in three $2,000 increments during the student’s sophomore, junior, and senior years.

- The Fall 2016 JBT application will be available in early fall of 2015. On-campus interviews are a required part of the selection process. Interviews will take place in late September, October and early November, and again in mid-February and early March. Applications received prior to October 15 will be eligible to schedule a fall interview; applications received between October 15 and February 1 will be eligible to interview spring semester

College of ACES General Scholarship Information
A number of scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of ACES are made available through the generous support of alumni and friends of the College. The updated College of ACES scholarship listing and application are available to undergraduate students in mid-March from the Student Development and Career Services office in 115 ACES Library, or at academics.aces.illinois.edu/scholarships/aces
Applications must be filed by June 1 for a student to receive consideration for scholarship awards in the next academic year. Recipients will be selected on the basis of specific scholarship criteria and academic merit. Scholarship recipients in most recent years have had a grade-point average above 3.3. For some scholarships, students must also have applied for and received eligibility for aid from the Office of Student Financial Aid
